AEPA Biology Exam

The AEPA Biology Exam measures readiness to teach biology according to Arizona Academic Standards. Six sections are tested and scored as follows:

Scientific inquiry, 22% of the score: contributions from biology to other fields, such as genetics and agriculture; scientific methods of inquiry and analysis; and the impact of biology on society and technology.

Cells and cell theory, 16%: cell structure, function and theory; chemical characteristics of cells; physiological processes; and principles of cell growth and propagation.

Characteristics of organisms, 16%: biological classification; chemical components; and anatomy, physiology, and function of organisms.

Human biology, 13%: primary human systems, including circulatory, respiratory, digestive, reproductive and skeletomuscular.

Principles of heredity, 16%: principles of Mendelian and non-Mendelian genetics; natural selection and adaptation; structure and functions of genes.

Matter and energy in ecosystems, 17%: characteristics of ecosystems and biomes, including impacts from humans, processes, interrelationships, and energy use.
