AEPA Mathematics Exam

The AEPA Mathematics Exam tests six subject areas to ensure that you are qualified to teach mathematics in the Arizona public schools. The following six areas are covered:

  1. Number Sense, 14% of the test: Understand concepts of integers, fractions, decimals, real and complex number systems, number theory, and problem solving.
  2. Data Analysis and Probability, 14%: Know the principles and applications of statistics and probability.
  3. Patterns, Algebra, and Functions, 18%: Demonstrate a knowledge of the basics of linear and matrix algebra; quadratic equations; and polynomial, exponential, logarithmic, and rational functions.
  4. Geometry and Measurement, 18%: Demonstrate your knowledge of measurement concepts and principles of geometry, including geometric figures, coordinate geometry, and vectors.
  5. Trigonometry and the Conceptual Foundations of Calculus, 18%: Comprehend and apply trigonometric functions and the concepts of limits and integrals.
  6. Mathematical Structure and Logic, 18%: Demonstrate a mastery of mathematical reasoning and problem solving techniques, terminology, axiomatic systems, and the relationship between mathematics and other fields.
